Comic Con 2009 Report - Boondock Saints II Interviews
By: Terry Bunch
Date: July 28, 2009
Saturday morning, we met in the presidential suite at the Westin Hotel to interview the cast of Boondock Saints II. We spoke with Sean
Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and Billy Connolly. Our full interview report will be published closer to the actual release date, but here is a
summary of what was discussed.
Sean, sporting a healing black eye, discussed how the world has gone soft and that people who do bad things should have bad things happen to them.
A direct mirror of his character, Sean stated that he did not have to "get into character" for the film. He also discussed his love of movies,
especially those with a payback theme. There are some sursprising movies that make it to Sean's list of favorites, we will reveal some of them in
the full review. There were several funny moments during the interview as well, but we're keeping those under wraps for now too.
We discovered that Norman's personality is also in line with his character as he discussed the long awaited sequel. Going into detail about the basic
storyline, we learned that Boondock Saints 2 takes place around 8-10 years after the original. The boys are all in Ireland laying low when "something" happens
back in the US and the boys are blamed. They feel compelled to return and once again, right that which is wrong. We discovered more than that of
course, but we are not sharing until closer to the release date.
While we were wrapping up our questions with Norman Reedus, in walks Billy Connolly. Confidently, he strode across the room and took a seat on the couch
next to Norman. Billy explained that the "bad guys" this time were not something mundane like the mafia, but something far more interesting, more
sinister. He told us that he gets to play a bit more of the "father figure" in this one, but not in ways you might expect. We joked a lot since
Billy Connolly is famous for his humor and we ended our afternoon with him and myself talking about Scotland and the places we have both lived in and
visited.
All in all, a very relaxed environment lead to very comfortable interviews and we can't wait to share the rest of our awesome afternoon with the McManus
clan. Until then, behave yourselves, lest you hear the haunting words, "In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti" from somewhere behind you.
