This preview of the upcoming 13 part series sets the stage for the next chapter in the adventures of Aphrodite IV and the 13 Artifacts that exist within the Top Cow universe. Yes, this includes Sara Pezzini's Witchblade.
This series has long been talked about and was officially announced at San Diego Comic Con 2009. On Free Comic Book Day 2010, this preview issue was made available and Top Cow fans got their first look at this upcoming series.
The comic opens up with Aphrodite IV awakening and learning of her next expected course of action, that she seems to look forward to. We'll have to wait for issue 1, due in July 2010, for the actual storyline though.
After a few pages of story, the comic then shows each of the 13 artifacts while the narrator explains some details of each to Aphrodite IV. Then, the narrator reveals their intentions and Aphrodite IV responds with her intention.
The artwork is superb (as to be expected from Stjepan Sejic) and gives us an idea of what is to come. The upcoming 13 issue series will be done in 4 part segments, each with different artists, etc, so the look and feel will undoubtedly change as the series progresses. The highlight of this preview is the 13 pages highlighting the artifacts themselves. Each of those pages has cover-worthy artwork.
A letter from publisher Filip Sablick and a bonus preview of The Magdelena finsh off this issue.
This is one of the most anticipated Top Cow series ever and the connection of all of the artifacts into one storyline is definitely going to be a must read. So look for the series to start in July.
