An incredible introduction to the Legends: The Enchanted graphic novel. The comic opens with a battle to defeat a giant, much to the dismay of the townsfolk who now have a lot of cleaning up to do. Our hero provides some sage advice, gets on his motorcycle and rides off to the next adventure. The action switched to a captured Pinocchio who is being tormented by an evil hag and her master. The next scene features Red Riding Hood dispatching some demonic wolves. We then see a bit more of the hag followed by a little more of the story featuring Goldilocks among other characters.
In case you haven't guessed yet, this is a modernized, bloody re-imagining of several "legends" or fairy tales. This brief introduction gives you great idea of what is available in the graphic novel. The concepts are fresh, they have a nice twisted side to them and wait until you see the artwork!
Almost every page of this issue is worthy of being the cover art for any heavy metal band. The use of colors contrasted by shadow bring each character and scene to life (or death as the case may be). The attention to minute detail is worthy of praise. Nick even makes sure that the backgrounds have details that help summarize the emotion or message of the scene.
The last few pages of this preview are some more full page art. The art and the characters introduced so far definitely make it a no-brainer to go pick up the 128 page hardcover graphic novel.
Legends is going to be adapated for film by creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos. The graphic novel is avaiable now, check it out.
