| Blending progressive styles, thrash speed changes and death metal bursts, Dewfall create a fun and interesting mixture on this release. The clean vocals of guitarist Matteo Capasso suffer a little from poor production, but the extreme vocals of bassist Valerio Lore sound good and are well mixed.
The mixture of styles throughout the CD makes for a balanced release, with influences and elements of almost every sub genre of metal.
Very intelligent songwriting went into these structured tunes based on the alchemical/masonic concept that is the title of the release. V.I.T.R.I.O.L. stands for "Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificandoque Invenies Occultum Lapidem", which is Latin inscription roughly meaning "Focus on the innermost concepts, rectify what you find there, and you will find the hidden stone". There is also a reference to Dante's Inferno in the track "Free Entrance to Hell" and a Lovecraft theme on the track "The Serpent's Cave"
Stand out tracks include "Ravens of the Frost", "The Secret Passage" and "In the Shadow of Ragnarok". |
